Makalu is the 5th highest mountain in the world. The last great challenge for high-altitude himalayan mountaineering. Its winter summit has never been trodden upon before.

In february 2009, Simone Moro and Denis Urubko reached the summit. Their success has realised the dream of almost 30 years since the first winter attempt.
